The Close to Our Hearts Foundation is a Minneapolis based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income pregnant and parenting students overcome barriers by offering support for higher education, driver’s education classes, housing security assistance, and educational materials for financial literacy. Close to Our Hearts works closely with Longfellow High School and Minneapolis Public Schools. Originally started in 2021 during the COVID pandemic, Close to Our Hearts has worked to create sustainable opportunities for teen mothers. Examples include our annual Close to Our Hearts scholarship for graduating seniors of Longfellow High School and our recent initiative to provide after-school snacks for mothers and children to support their general wellbeing. Going forward, we will continue to work with our community partners to support these young mothers as they strive to reach their dreams.
